Ribes Sanguineum

The Ribes sanguineum is a deciduous shrub found native to the coastal ranges of California. It prefers shade to part shade, and likes moderate water, but it is also drought tolerant. This hardy shrub grows to around five feet tall and can grow in sandy or clay soils.  Ribes brighten up the landscape in the January to March with their long showy pink flower clusters, that attract many beneficial insects. In the spring Ribes produce berries that attract many birds including California Thrasher, Hermit Thrush, and American Robin.
